ABOUT Groenland
Located in the Bottelary Hills outside Stellenbosch, with elevated south-west facing slopes overlooking Table Bay and well-drained gravel soils with coffee stone, the 190ha Steenkamp farm Groenland is ideally situated for producing the finest quality Stellenbosch varieties. Some 80% comprises red cultivars, with Cabernet Sauvignon being the largest varietal.

In a throwback to a bygone era, the red wines are made in the Groenland family cellar, in open concrete fermenters built in 1932, using manual pump overs and push downs, using new oak barrels and making wines the handmade, traditional way.
Walking in the footsteps of a legend
Groenland has been in the Steenkamp family for four generations. The present owner and winemaker is Piet Steenkamp, who joined his late father Kosie on the family farm in 2001, as an assistant winemaker and viticulturist. Kosie Steenkamp, a legendary storyteller, had been growing grapes and making wine on Groenland since 1975.
